Project Overview

We understand that running a tourism business is a busy and challenging job with little time available to research the ever-changing world of digital media. Part of our commitment to the tourism industry is to help educate as many businesses as possible on the latest trends in technology and how these affect their business.

Lawrence Smith, our Chief Cabbage, is also our chief researcher and focuses on uncovering and interpreting these trends so we can continually develop and adapt our products and services accordingly.

Speaking at numerous conferences and events over the past several years, Lawrence has helped hundreds of business owners and managers better understand the online world. In 2010 he was invited by the Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand to carry out a series of workshops for association members.

The Brief

To present a series of workshops throughout New Zealand in support of TIANZ's continuing education programme for the industry.

Delivery

Lawrence took up the challenge and TIA organised the online technology and social media training workshops incorporating practical, hands-on content. The focus was on three main areas:

  • Website Marketing
  • Social Media
  • Analytics

The workshops covered topics such as discovering how to use Google’s keyword tools, finding out which keywords would be best for individual businesses, how and where to add these keywords, and why this is important. Participants also learnt about social media sites like Facebook, TripAdvisor, Twitter and Flickr, as well as how to set up a blog, how to get bloggers to talk about you, and many other useful social media tools.

The courses were a complete sell-out with a number of extra sessions put on due to demand.
