The North Canterbury Food and Wine Trail is a joint marketing project developed by Visit Waimakiriri and Alpine Pacific Tourism. The objective is to highlight and promote food and wine tourism in the region.
The original brief was for a straight forward website, but as Cabbage Tree Creative was currently experimenting with mobile website development we agreed to work with the trail team to come up with a mobile version.
The Brief
Create an elegant mobile phone solution for the North Canterbury Food and Wine Trail website.
Our Solution
The Food and Wine Trail website uses our TourismData operator database system, which allows operators to update their product information online and allocates these products automatically to the right location and category selections made by the website user.
The mobile version draws data directly from the database. This connectivity with the existing Thrive and TourismData infrastructure means the client doesn’t have to manage two sets of data. Any changes to the website or operator listings are immediately reflected on the mobile version.
Mobile phones are notoriously variable and our development team worked through all versions of possible phone platforms to ensure maximum coverage.
The final piece of the puzzle was to ensure the information being delivered was the right kind of information. We targeted our focus on ‘the user on the run’, implementing easy-to-use navigation and the right amount of information to be useful without being cumbersome.
These solutions bring together the best of Cabbage Tree’s talents.
Success Factors
Trust and a great development and design team:
- Trust from the client to allow us to use their brand and new marketing concept to experiment with the development of our mobile solutions.
- Our development team excels in this sort of environment; creating new tools, working around the inherent problems of multiple devices and working with a new platform.
- Our design team’s ability (with direction from the account management team) to translate the essence of the brand into the restrictions of a mobile version.
