FAQ
What is website usability?
Usability is a term used to describe how 'usable' a website, or other software product is. Usability is based around five core principles: being easy to learn (Learnability), easy to use (Efficiency), easy to remember (Memorability), free from, or appropriate handling of, errors (Errors), and how satisfied the user is at the end (Satisfaction).
Users of a website (or other software product) usually have 4 goals: to get work done, to not make mistakes, to not feel stupid, and to have some fun while doing it. The aim of usability to have a system that enables users to achieve these goals.
It is important to consider usability when developing a website because you want users to be able to perform the tasks they want to do accurately and completely, and not be frustrated. As soon as a user of your website becomes frustrated, cannot figure out what to do, or can't find their way around, they will leave your website and go to someone else's instead - most likely your competitor.
