FAQ

What is a Domain Name?

In general terms, the domain name is the name of your website. For example, for the Cabbage Tree website, http://www.cabbagetree.co.nz, the "www.cabbagetree.co.nz” part is known as the domain name. The whole string is called the URL (Uniform Resource Locator).

Domain names have to be registered and purchased from an authorized domain name provider. The price of a domain name varies between providers, but is usually around $45 for one year. It has to be renewed annually.

Domain names are managed by the Domain Name System (DNS). In more technical terms, the DNS takes the domain name of your website, converts this to an IP address, which then points to the server where your website is located and retrieves and your web page files.

If you do not have a domain name already, Cabbage Tree Creative can help you set this up when we develop a website for you.
